Nancy Diaz Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who
Nancy Diaz has devoted her career to helping inner city youth find careers in science
BROOKLYN, NY, November 30, 2009 /University PR News/ -- Nancy Diaz, Recruitment Coordinator for the RISE Program at CUNY Brooklyn College, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in student development.
As a recruitment coordinator for the RISE Program at CUNY Brooklyn College, Ms. Diaz is responsible for arranging for activities and speakers to educate students about research careers, recruiting students for research internships in the engineering and science program, counseling students and serving on the RISE admissions committee. The goal of the Research Internships in Engineering and Science Program (RISE) is to encourage more under-represented minority students into scientific research in areas such as biology, chemistry and behavioral sciences by increasing the number who apply to and complete doctoral programs. Ms. Diaz previous worked for 10 years as a police officer and wanted to do something to help the at-risk youth she encountered during her career. She attributes her success to her desire to help inner city children.
Ms. Diaz is pursuing her bachelor of sciences in anthropolgy and psychology at CUNY Brooklyn College and completed coursework at CUNY Baruch College. She intends to start another program at the university and complete her Ph.D. in anthropology with a specialization in bioarchaeology.
