Barbizon Changes Life of Ohio Teen Through Education
Barbizon of Akron Grad wins annual $100,000 Barbizon College Tuition Scholarship
CORAL SPRINGS, FL, April 09, 2010 /University PR News/ -- Barbizon Modeling and Acting Schools graduate, Briana Lehman is this year's winner of Barbizon's $100,000 College Scholarship. A sophomore at North Ridgeville High School in North Ridgeville, Ohio where she maintains a 4.3 GPA; she can elect to attend any college or university of her choice within the United States.
"Now I can go to NYU or any of the Ivy League colleges, the ones I've always wanted to go to but did not think I would be able to," Briana said. "I don't have to worry about the money for college anymore. Now I can focus on studying and getting good grades."
Beginning as a biannual program in 1992, the Barbizon Scholarship Program became an annual program in 2007 to accommodate an increasing number of applicants. To date, Barbizon has awarded $900,000 in college scholarships.
"The scholarship program is so rewarding for both the recipients and for the Barbizon family of employees and owners," Mary Sklamba, Director of the Barbizon in Akron said. "It's so wonderful to be a part of a company that supports the success and education of our young people. This program has truly made a difference in the lives of so many young people and their families."
Briana says Barbizon has not only opened the doors to college for her financially but also in life, leading to her success.
"Barbizon helped me to be a better communicator and public speaker," Briana said. "Before Barbizon, I was not good at speaking in front of people and now because of the confidence I gained at Barbizon, I am a much better public speaker. Barbizon made me feel great."
Briana's mother, Cheryl Lehman says the Barbizon Scholarship has lifted a heavy burden from her shoulders.
"As a single mom I did not have the money set aside for her to go to college," Cheryl said. "This scholarship is incredible. I no longer have to worry; she can go to the best universities in the country now."
Briana works hard out of the classroom as well. She plays volleyball for her school and the Jr. Olympics and is a listed model with Pro-Model and Talent Management.
