Angus Barn Executive Chef Walter Royal to Receive Honorary Doctorate from Johnson & Wales University

"Iron Chef America" Winner One of Two Commencement Speakers

    RALEIGH, NC, May 06, 2010 /University PR News/ -- Johnson & Wales University (JWU), Charlotte Campus will graduate 1,066 undergraduate students on Saturday, May 22. JWU will also award honorary degrees to two recipients who have notable reputations in their fields and are recognized for their distinguished career and positive influence on their industry and community.

Walter J.L. Royal, executive chef of Angus Barn and The Pavilions at the Angus Barn, Raleigh, N.C., will receive an honorary Doctorate of Culinary Arts.

Patricia A. Rodgers, chief executive officer of Rodgers Builders Inc., Charlotte, N.C., will receive an honorary Doctorate of Business Administration.

Royal and Rodgers will also address the graduates and their families during the commencement ceremony on May 22 at 10 a.m. at Time Warner Cable Arena.

A former Restaurant Guild International Five Star Chef of the Year, Royal was triumphant on his 2006 appearance on "Iron Chef America" and has been featured in numerous publications like Southern Living magazine. Among its many local, national and international awards, the Angus Barn was recently named an All-American Icon by Nation's Restaurant News.

"I am very humbled to be selected for this honorary doctorate from Johnson & Wales University," said Royal. "I hope to pass along some of the knowledge I've gained over the years to this year's graduating class. I hope they will enjoy their careers as much as I love doing what I do."
