Why London is Great for Overseas Students

LONDON, ENGLAND, May 12, 2010 /University PR News/ -- London has become an increasingly popular destination for overseas students and there are numerous reasons why colleges and universities have become so highly sought after. The UK has long had a reputation for a vast cultural diversity and in many cities in England there are many different experiences that attract students from abroad.
London is undoubtedly one of the more desired destinations, as it is by far the biggest city in the country. It also has the highest concentration of third level institutions - 43 in the central and Greater London area.
One very popular London location is Roehampton University, which currently has students from 110 different countries. Like many of the major universities, Roehampton has its own International Centre, which is solely focused on providing assistance to overseas students, before and after their studies. Roehampton is one of the finest examples of such a university, assisting overseas students in areas such as visas and immigration, finance and scholarships, information for parents and accommodation. There is also country-specific information on their website, which allows those considering studying at Roehampton to assess their academic qualifications and eligibility.
Roehampton's central London location means there is a wealth of amenities and attractions outside the university - another big advantage for overseas students. Popular student areas such as Camden Town and Brick Lane, as well as shopping and theatres in the West End, are all within easy reach of the university's campus. Famous attractions, such as the River Thames, Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park and London's historical landmarks are all a short distance away.
The number of overseas students in London has increased every year and it has also been named first in the Global University City Index. This city can provide much in the line of services, transport, history and cultural diversity, but so too will other cities in other parts of the country. Manchester and Liverpool are two examples of locations that have become renowned for a vibrant student life and can offer a unique experience for overseas students.
One of the main reasons why foreign students come to the country is to learn English and to receive the highest standards in education while doing so. As the country is renowned for accepting large numbers of overseas students, facilities and services are provided for people of varying cultural backgrounds, and on average, higher education institutions in London will be far more accommodating than those in most other countries.
