James I. Alexander Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who
James I. Alexander celebrates a successful 35-year career in law enforcement and academia
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, February 2, 2010 /University PR News/ -- James I. Alexander, Chairman of the Criminal Justice Department at Roanoke-Chowan Community College, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in criminal justice.
With 35 years of experience in law enforcement, Mr. Alexander is an expert in investigative practice and use of deadly force. As the Chairman of the Criminal Justice Department at Roanoke-Chowan Community College, he is responsible for overseeing the Criminal Justice Department, managing administration, developing curriculum and teaching courses such as criminal investigation, criminal justice, criminal liability and criminology. Prior to joining Roanoke-Chowan Community College, he was a police officer for the New York Police Department from 1965 to 1983. Mr. Alexander is also the author of "Blue Shirts Black Skin," a story about African Americans in New York police service. He attributes his success to his diligence and hard work which he learned from his mother and father.
Mr. Alexander received his ABD from Union University, his Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1977 and his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1974. A member of the National Criminal Justice Association, he has been honored with an education citation from the New York Police Department as well as meritorious duty awards for life-saving acts and unit citations, also excellent police duty awards. He hopes to write another book and continue mentoring students.
