Josiah S. Tlou Honored as a Leader in Social Studies Education and International Curriculum Development
International Program Development Specialist with Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
BLACKSBURG, VA, February 22, 2010 /University PR News/ -- Josiah S. Tlou, Professor Emeritus and Director of the Center for Research and Development in International Education at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.
With an impressive background in the education field that spans more than 37 years, Dr. Tlou specializes in curriculum development and international education. He is most proud of his work in Malawi and Botswana, Africa, having spent more than 10 years in collaboration with doctoral students in order to create specialized international educational programs.
Recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (2002-2003), Dr. Tlou was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters from Luther College in 2003. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1976 and his Master of Arts from Illinois State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Luther College. He is a member of the Virginia Historical Society, the National Council for the Social Studies, the American Educational Research Association, the African Studies Association, and Phi Delta Kappa. Additionally, he was a founding member of the International Assembly, a Special Interest Group of the NCSS.
