Helen Martin Parramore celebrates a 50-year career in education
St Petersburg, Florida, March 16, 2010 /University PR News/ -- Helen Parramore has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in education.
Throughout her 50-year career as an educator, Dr. Parramore taught on all levels from elementary school to graduate level university courses. At the University of Florida, Valencia College, Rollins and the University of Central Florida, she taught art, art education, and interdisciplinary humanities for 20 years. In addition to textbooks and newspaper columns, she has written, illustrated and published six books: Skunk Stew, a memoir of a 1930s childhood; Maiden Voyage, a novel of adventures in Greece; Maudie's Promise, (9-12 yrs.) the story of a girl on Florida's frontier; The Frigments of Fern Valley, (9-12 yrs.) a novel of wee folk in the woods; Brian's Bird Book and Where Do Babies Come From? (picture books for 3-60+ yrs.). She is presently working on a novel about family life in the 20th Century. She is also exhibiting her paintings at local galleries.
She graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville where she received her B.F.A. in painting in 1951, her M.Ed. in 1961, and her Ed.D. in Arts Ed. in 1970. She is an active member of the Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. She attributes her success to and is grateful for the gifts with which she has been endowed—optimism, abundant energy and a great sense humor.
